Jacksonville musician looks to teach about historical musicians through their music – KTVL

Jacksonville, Ore. – David Gordon starts his second series of ‘Pioneer History in Story and Song’ this year focusing on a 19th century musician, Stephen Foster.

Gordon says Foster is the first American freelance composer. On Sunday, Gordon focused mainly on songs from the Civil War era and Foster’s emphasis on slavery and racism.

Gordon will continue the series throughout the year, focusing on different eras and how the music reflected the culture of the time period.
